500 g beef minced
1 egg
bread crumbs
1 tin of chopped tomatoes
250 g mushrooms
2 carrots
2 peppers
1 onion
2-3 cloves garlic
10 basil leaves
2 tsp sugar
parsley
salt, pepper
oil for frying

Meatballs in tomato sauce

Meatballs in an aromatic sauce with lots of vegetables. At first glance, many resemble Bulgarian traditional Chirpan meatballs, but this is a different version, with a slight Mediterranean flavor.

In a hot pan with oil fry the chopped onion and garlic.

In a large bowl mix well the minced meat, egg, bread crumbs and the fried onion and garlic. Add also chopped basil leaves. Season with salt and pepper.

Shape mixture of meatballs with slightly damp hands.

For the sauce chop the carrots, peppers and mushrooms and fry in a pan with oil. Add canned tomatoes.

Season with a little sugar, salt and pepper. Reduce the heat and place the meatballs in the sauce. Cook about 20-25 minutes.

Serve with chopped parsley sprinkled on top.
